Visit
Us
If you're visiting the Victoria Falls, do take an hour and visit us.
We're just two kilometres (about a mile) from the city centre. Pay us
a visit and see what we're doing. You'll immediately fall in love with
our children. If you have a half-day, we might try to put you to work
tutoring the children with their math or English, or digging in the garden
or refereeing a football game. (If you can come and take two or three
days out of your holiday/vacation, we'll definitely keep you busy!) We
feel confident that you'll come away inspired and never forget us.
Help
with running expenses
It costs about US$ 3,000 per month to feed, clothe and house 60 children
and pay the staff. US$ 1,800 of this covers food alone for a month.
It is not possible to raise all this in a society where 80% of the people
are living on less than US$ 1 per day.
We have started an Education Fund, to help finance secondary and tertiary
education as the children grow up.
Help
with capital projects
In 2004 we are increasing the number of children from 20 to 60. We have
finished constructing the new toilets and showers attached to four of
the dormitories and now have sufficient for 60 children. We also have
a borehole with pump and tanks, giving us a reliable water supply.
The next project is to build a block containing two storerooms, a library,
and toilets and showers for the staff. The Home is very short of storage
space and we have had to use one of the dormitories to store garden tools,
building materials, etc. The staff have to use the children’s toilets
and showers at present. This block is estimated to cost US$ 12,500.
We still need some more bunk beds and mattresses for the extra children.
The staff houses need renovation. They have not been repaired or painted
for many years. We need a vehicle for buying food, taking children to
hospital, taking children to church or on outings, etc.
As the children grow up, they will need training to be self-sufficient.
We have plenty of land where we could put up a training centre and teach
agriculture and other skills.
